SsH/SSL VPN

Florida State University VPN Service - http://vpn.fsu.edu

FSU has a new VPN appliance which securely connects FSU staff and our campus networking community.  The VPN Service provides encryption and authentication technologies that protect data passing through the VPN from unauthorized access. Simply put, when using the VPN everything sent and received to/from the computer is protected by the VPN appliance even through the public (commodity) internet. 

There are two levels of encrypted VPN services offered:

Site-to-Site IPsec (web based/SSH) You do not have to install the software, because it's web based. However, users requiring special access to network services. Such as, network drives, databases, servers and so on must install the AnyConnect software.
Also, IPsec may require users to have a configuration file saved on their computers hard drive. Your units computer tech(s) or supervisor should know if your network access requires the file with the extension XXX.pcf.

and

Remote Access (install Software/SSL) You do not have to install the AnyConnect software, because it's web based. If you plan to access your work computer from home, you must install the AnyConnect software.

Recommended Level of Security

Requirements for FSU's VPN Service:

  • Faculty and Staff (including OPS) have access only at this time (no students at present).
  • Guest or Vendors must have an FSU sponsor and an active email address (sponsor must contact help@fsu.edu)
  • You must have a current Browser with an active internet connection.
  • Your FSUID and password
  • A .pcf file (profile) if your Department requires one. Click here for more information.
